North of Bathurst in the hills is some old gold mining areas we'd been told were worth an explore.
First stop was Newnes Ruins Campground. 200 kms from Sydney through the Wolgan Valley
In 1905 a oil shale refinery was set up closed down in the 1930's. Almost everything was removed leaving a huge open campground fringed by gums and dwarfed by surrounding cliffs.
