Elim Beach was recommended to us by fellow travellers and we're really glad we made the effort to go to this magic spot. Located 25 kms from Hope Vale this secluded campsite is on a beach lined with Malelcua trees, Pandanas palms and has natural water streams running onto the beach.
We stayed for two nights and could have stayed another night or two. Unfortunately we didn't catch any mud crabs or fish while we were there. However, there is no doubt with more time and some local knowledge you could easily land some. You decide where you want to camp and you have the option of, if available, camping on the shore or further back on grass. Either way there is plenty of shade. Our campsite was picturesque - it looked over the beach and we watched the tidal activity as well as having a view of the coloured sand hills.
When the tide is out you can explore the coastline and if you're game walk out to the sand bar - just be prepared to get pretty muddy! The water does look inviting but there are crocs, albeit none have been seen for some time. The campsite is visited by families, couples and lone travellers.
At the site there are clean flushing toilets and cold showers (yes very refreshing) and you can have fires. For $10 per adult per night this campsite is great value. Most of all it is a beautiful and relaxed place to spend some time enjoying the wonders of nature and the Cape. Definitely put this campsite on your list.
